I had a last-minute 3-day, 2-night business trip recentlyโnot too far awayโso I thought:
Can I skip the suitcase and just bring one bag?
Turns out, yes. One well-chosen bag can actually be enough.
โ What I Packed
I used a large-capacity backpack with zippers and multiple compartments. Hereโs everything I managed to fit inside:
For work:
-
13" laptop + charger
-
Document folder, pens, notebook
For daily use:
-
2 sets of clothes (including underwear)
-
Folding umbrella, toiletries, small medicine kit
-
Phone charger & power bank
Miscellaneous:
-
A book for travel downtime
-
Some snacks (surprisingly useful)
๐งช How It Went
There were definitely some pros:
-
Convenient: No checked luggage, no rolling suitcase to drag around
-
Lightweight: Easy to move through the airport/train station
-
Space-saving: Hotel room felt tidier without a suitcase
But also a few small trade-offs:
-
Gets heavy if overpacked, so your shoulders might feel it
-
Needs smart packing, or youโll dig around a lot
-
Go with light, foldable clothingโjeans are not your friend here
๐ Final Thoughts
If itโs a short trip and you donโt need formal attire, one bag is totally doableโand honestly, kind of liberating.
The key is choosing a roomy, well-organized bag and packing thoughtfully.
Of course, if youโre attending events or bringing more gear, then a suitcase might still be better.
But for me, trying this โone-bag tripโ made the whole experience smoother.
Not because Iโm a minimalistโjust because I wanted less hassle.
